People of Moor Pool: Jill Howes

As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, we’re featuring ten ‘People of Moor Pool’.

Jill Howes has been a Trustee of Moor Pool Heritage Trust since 2012 and lived on the Estate until last year. We caught up with her recently and asked her a few questions:

How long did you live on Moor Pool?
I lived on Moor Pool Estate for 38 years, from 1985 to 2024.
What do you think makes Moor Pool such a special place?
It is special to me for its unique vista, The Circle in particular. The area has a quaint country village feel.
What is your favourite Moor Pool memory?
I remember thinking on the day I discovered Moor Pool;  it took me back to the children’s TV series Camberwick Green and Postman Pat. The quaint little houses and green spaces.
What is your favourite spot on the Estate?
The Circle, bottom of Wentworth Gate –  overlooking the tennis court and the Hall.
What did it mean to you to save the community spaces in 2014?
It was not until several years later [after moving to Moor Pool] that I  discovered the community hall, when it was unfortunately under threat of being sold to developers. [Since then, Jill has been a central figure in the conservation of Moor Pool, both as a Trustee and a dedicated volunteer.]
Is there anything you’d like to see happen on the Estate over the next 10 years?
It has always been my wish that Moor Pool preserves its unique appearance. It is a little oasis which needs care and attention from the people of Moor Pool.
