Our spaces
Carless Eco Centre
The Carless Eco Centre is a welcoming community hub dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and green living within the Moor Pool Estate.
A two-minute walk from the Main Hall and accessible from Wentworth Gate or Carless Avenue, the Eco Centre serves as a vibrant focal point for ecological education, community activities and sustainable practices.
The outdoor space behind the Square and the Builder’s Yard was developed through grants, fundraising and many hours of volunteer work and transformed into the Carless Eco Centre, which opened in 2022.
The Eco Centre was constructed with eco-friendly materials and designed to minimise its carbon footprint. The Eco Centre is also totally organic and pesticide free, harvesting rainwater and making its own compost, as well as harvesting seeds, aligning with the principles of sustainability.

Eco Centre volunteers
We have a dedicated group of volunteers who help out at the Eco Centre on a regular basis. They enjoy all the benefits that gardening brings, such as improvements in physical and mental health, community building, teamwork, nurturing green spaces, food production and environmental stewardship. Those who sow together, grow together!
What we do at the Eco Centre
The Eco Centre hosts a variety of workshops and educational programs linking to key stage one and two in science, habitats, sustainability and environmental awareness.
It also hosts events such as a children’s poetry book launch, composting workshops, willow weaving and wormery workshops, all aimed at fostering an understanding of environmental issues and sustainable living practices, while being fun and interactive.
We run regular school holiday craft activities, forest school sessions, home schooling programs and sessions working with students aged 19-25 with profound and multiple learning difficulties, who volunteer at the Eco Centre aided by Moor Pool staff and a 1:1 ratio of school staff members.
In addition to its educational initiatives, the Carless Eco Centre acts as a community gathering space, offering a welcoming environment for local residents to engage in eco-friendly projects and initiatives.
