Lise on why she does yoga: “I only started doing a regular yoga practice around midlife, at the time, I had a full-time teaching job, four energetic sons and life was seriously hectic…and thus very stressful!
To begin with, yoga simply gave me an hour out of the house to be away from the chaos of home. My primary goal was to do something physical, but yoga, an ancient practice for the body and the mind seemed a perfect combination. When I discovered that it made me feel good and that as most postures can be experienced at different levels, even as a beginner I felt I could do it, and from the very first class, I felt a sense of achievement. Gradually, my body started to feel stronger and more flexible, and sometimes I could even hold a balance! My mat became my ‘happy place’, one where I wanted to be, where I could focus on myself and just ‘do me’.
Our bodies and minds are in constant flux according to the myriad of things that we deal with in our stressful lives – yoga helps me on a daily basis to tap into how I feel at any one time, and to be kind to myself, to accept where I am, and to allow myself to just be.
If any of the above resonates with you, if you want to develop a tool to help you cope with the emotional battles inside your head, as well as gaining physical strength and greater flexibility, and even being able to balance (sometimes), then please come and join me on a Thursday at 7:30.
Yoga is for everyone, any age, any ability, any physicality – the hardest bit is just committing to doing it…and just turning up on your mat.
As well as being an experienced teacher, I have completed a 200-hour Yoga Teaching Training Course, and when not teaching or practising yoga, I like to be outside – gardening, walking, cycling or camping.”
